Location Descriptions

Evocative descriptions of the key places the party may visit in Consul's Landing. Read these aloud or paraphrase to set the scene.

The High Palace (The White Spire)

Built directly into the highest peak of the cliffs, the Palace is a marvel of architecture. It is constructed from white marble and reinforced glass that catches the sun, making it visible for miles. The exterior is adorned with slow-turning clockwork gears that power the internal elevators.

It feels detached from the city -- quiet, clean, and terrifyingly expensive. Guards in polished brass armor stand at every gate, and the smell of jasmine and rain replaces the coal-smoke of the lower levels.

District: High District Access: Restricted -- petitioners must be announced or escorted Atmosphere: Imposing, pristine, aloof

The Council Chambers

Located in the heart of the Palace, this circular room features a massive glass dome ceiling. A giant, holographic map of the continent (powered by Gnomish engineering) floats in the center of the room.

The six Council seats are elevated on a dais, looking down upon whoever is addressing them. The acoustics are designed to make the Council's voices boom, while petitioners sound small and distant. It is cold, intimidating, and smells of old parchment and wax.

District: High District (inside the White Spire) Who You'll Meet: Mayor Caspian Vane, Alysande Thorne, Thrain Ironfoot, Mella Iron-Weaver, Hannibal Traven, Vilkas Iron-Blood Atmosphere: Ceremonial, adversarial, theatrical

The Rusty Cog (The Tavern)

The Cog is the opposite of the Palace. Located in the Craftsman's Quarter, it is built into a hollowed-out segment of a massive, decommissioned water pipe. The walls are stained with soot, and the decor consists of rusted gears, dangling chains, and mismatched stools. The floor is covered in sawdust to soak up spilled ale.

It is loud, crowded, and smells of yeast, wet dog, and metallic tang. It's the kind of place where you can buy a secret as easily as a pint, and Olaf "One-Ear" hears everything whispered in the dark corners.

District: Craftsman's Quarter (Mid-Levels) Proprietor: Olaf "One-Ear" Services: Cheap ale, private rooms, rooms for the night, information Atmosphere: Loud, rowdy, welcoming to regulars
