The Public History of Consul's Landing

The Founding

Consul's Landing was built as a sanctuary for those fleeing "The Wasting." The Dwarven Kings provided the stone and the foundation, while gnomish constructs provided the labor to build upward along the Great Ascent.

The 200-Year Civil War (Maliki's War)

200 years ago, a genius gnome inventor and necromancer named Maliki attempted to "cleanse" the world of inefficient biological life. He waged a devastating civil war using legions of mechanical constructs, scarring the landscape with craters and leaving thousands of "scrapped" constructs littering the wilds.

The alliance of families that would become the High Council finally drove him back to the river and defeated him. He is presumed dead.

The Dwarven Fall

Concurrent with Maliki's War, the Dwarven King Bilfur went insane and attacked Glaurung, the Father of Dragons. This catastrophic act -- known as "The Fall" -- triggered the collapse of the deep mines and the destruction of the old Dwarven city beneath what is now Consul's Landing.

The Founding of the High Council

After Maliki's defeat, the victorious alliance of families established the High Council to govern the city. Each family took stewardship of a guild or civic function: - The Vane Family -- The Mayoral Line - The Thorne Family -- The Merchant Guild - The Goldfinger Clan -- The Engineers Guild - The Iron-Weaver Family -- The Crafting Guild - The Iron-Blood Lineage -- The Fighters Guild - The Traven Family -- The Mages Guild

The Construct Economy

After the war, the Engineers Guild salvaged Maliki's construct technology and repurposed it for civilian labor. Constructs are now powered by regulated "Arcane Batteries" and are essential to the city's industry. They are strictly controlled by the Engineers Guild.

The Modern Era

The city thrives but cracks are showing. The High District grows richer while the Mid-Levels and Undercity decay. Criminal syndicates operate freely in the lawless Undercity. The Scrapped Kingdom outside the walls remains a wasteland, and the "Burning Roots" crisis threatens the local ecosystem.
